In case you haven’t heard, the B-52 Bomber is being used to obliterate ISIS in the Middle East. Well, maybe not obliterate completely, but hopefully force them out of contentious territories.
The project was set in motion a couple years back, doing something that hadn’t been done in 25 years.
The legendary aircraft might be of the older variety, but it’s getting the job done today like it could in the early 1990’s.
Launched in 1946
It all began with a successful contract bid in June 1946, setting the B-52 project in motion.
Initially, the aircraft was set to use a straight wing design like the B-29. Except it would be powered by six turboprop engines instead of four.
Maiden Flight in 1952
Six years later, in April 1952, the B-52 took its maiden flight.
